I’m an undergraduate student majoring in Plant Sciences at the University of Arizona. I’m originally from Idaho, and I grew up with a love of green things, hunger for discovery, and a sense of stewardship for the world around me. Having always been a plant person, I moved to Arizona to pursue my dream career researching the genetics, evolution, and environmental interactions of plants - specifically in regard to plant queerness.
As an ASEMS STARS Scholar, I have the incredible opportunity to work in the Beilstein lab where I’ll be assisting Matthew Alcarez in studying the evolution and functional conservation of pollen tube CrRLK1Ls. This summer, I’ll be evaluating the complementation of native pollen tube CrRLK1Ls by transgenic copies in Arabidopsis thaliana.
Activities I enjoy when I’m away from campus also tend to revolve around plants as I tend to my jungle at home. I love art and design and have dabbled as a hobbyist in most media. Social issues are a strong passion of mine, and I try to support community progress every chance I get. I’m always on the hunt for novel ways of approaching life, and I’m thrilled to be able to apply that quality to my research in the lab!
