I’m a Ph.D. student in Plant Sciences at the University of Arizona, where I joined the Beilstein Lab in 2025.
I completed my undergraduate studies in Muncie, Indiana, earning an associate’s degree from Ivy Tech Community College (2021) before transferring to Ball State University for my bachelor’s degree. My research background spans several disciplines. In organic chemistry, I optimized the synthesis of a naturally derived plant compound under investigation as a potential chemotherapeutic. I also worked in wildlife biology with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, assisting with deer disease monitoring and goose banding projects, experiences that deepened my appreciation for ecosystem management and conservation. Later, my work in microbial and cellular biology revealed that sub-lethal antibiotic concentrations could inhibit virulence factors in Candida, suggesting a novel approach for combating drug-resistant infections.
My passion lies in advancing sustainability through research. While I initially aimed to focus on protecting endangered species, I came to realize that achieving lasting impact requires addressing challenges at the root, particularly within agriculture. Plants form the foundation of ecosystems and human society, and I’m excited to explore how plant science can drive a more sustainable future through my work in the Beilstein Lab.
Outside the lab, you’ll find me hiking, observing wildlife, or examining whatever plant or insect catches my attention. I’m also a science fiction and space enthusiast with a tendency to share cool but probably irrelevant facts.
